A COMPARISON OF NIGERIA’S TOP PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES
By Ikenda Elechi

In next year’s elections, Nigerian youths must be clear on who they want to vote & the reasons based on their antecedents in the previous public offices they occupied.
And this must be done by empirical evidence not on wishes or imaginations.

The Presidential Candidates of APC, PDP & Labour had at various times held public offices, so we have basis for accessing their abilities.

BOLA TINUBU:
As Governor of Lagos, what actions & steps did he take to improve the situation he met on ground & what are the fruits of those steps today?
Asiwaju became Governor of Nigeria’s most populated, complex & heterogeneous State immediately at the exit of the Military.
To address issues of diversity, he formed a Govt that had people from across the country notwithstanding that the State is essentially a Yoruba State. At that time, this was a novel idea.
Economically, he reviewed the Lagos State Masterplan and brought it to speed with 21stC economic indices.
Today, partly to his credit, on account of the Plan, the State has emerged as the most politically & economically stable State up to becoming Africa’s 4th largest Economy, topping many Independent Countries.
Politically, he created more Local Councils that brought Govt closer to the people. From a mere 20 LGAs, he increased it to over 57 wherein he came in direct conflict with the FG.
It is also to his credit that the first challenge since 1999 to FG’s monopoly, especially on Devolution of Power was undertaken.
Today, owing to the cases instituted by the Govt led by Asiwaju, the Courts established or reminded the FG in particular of its limits on issues of National Concerns

ATIKU:
As VP & Chair of National Council on Privatisation, how well did Atiku handle the Privatisation of Public Companies?
Are they better today in terms of productivity than before their Privatisation?

Can we as a people look back & be proud of the Privatisation Atiku handled onbehalf of Nigerians?

.

OBI:
Obi was Governor of the most commercially viable State in the South East.

What was the business environment under his watch, what new ideas did he introduce to the State that are visible today?
What disruptive ideas did Obi introduce to the polity that other parts are now copying??

I’ve stated few of what Asiwaju did. I invite supporters of both Atiku and Obi to educate us on their antecedents while in public offices!!!
