A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC and former Special Adviser to the former Governor of Rivers State, Chief Hon. Alex Wele, has formally declared his intention to run for the Rivers State House of Assembly, Obio/Akpor Constituency 2 elections in 2023.
Chief Wele made the declaration Sunday during a meeting of Party stakeholders in the Constituency comprising of Ward leaders and other LGA leaders , LGA Party officers, Ward chairmen, secretaries women leaders and youth leaders which he hosted at the residence of Chief Hon Edwin Oludi
Speaking, Chief Wele thanked the leadership and members of the Party in the Constituency for remaining steadfast and committed despite the prevailing political, social and economic challenges occasioned by the legal obstacle that denied the Party the opportunity to participate in the 2019 general elections. He stated that 2023 is another opportunity for the Party to make a statement and give the good people of Rivers State the type of governance they truly deserve.
“2023 is fast approaching and it affords us the chance to make amends and give Rivers people the opportunity to truly elect their leaders in an election that is well-contested not the type we witnessed in 2019. Accordingly, as a Party we must close ranks, unite in purpose and find a common ground to work together to ensure we take power in Rivers State at all levels.”
Speaking further, Wele expressed deep regret that the people of Obio/Akpor Constituency 2 has not made any meaningful legislative gains in over a decade. “Our Constituency deserves an effective and productive representation at the State House of Assembly unlike what we have had in the past 12 years. I come with experience and the zeal to give our Constituency a resounding voice and I ask for your total support.”
Recall that Chief Wele emerged the Party’s Candidate for the Rivers State House of Assembly Obio/Akpor Constituency 2 position in the 2019 general elections, however, due to some legal impediments the Party was unable to participate in that elections at all levels thereby denying the people of Obio/Akpor Constituency 2 the opportunity to make informed electoral decision.
The former Special Adviser to former Governor Amaechi, equally pleaded with those who had wished to contest same position to come together and join forces with him to give the people of Obio/Akpor Constituency 2 a deserving representation.
