Complacency Is Not An Option – Dr Dakuku Peterside charges Journalists
The Immediate Past Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency ( NIMASA) has charged members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) , Akwa Ibom State chapter to be steadfast in their discharge of their duties as complacency is not an option.
Speaking during the Akwa Ibom State NUJ 2022 Award/ Dinner which held on Friday, 9th December , at Emerald Event Centre, Uyo , Akwa Ibom. The Former NIMASA Boss said ” Journalists are a special breed of people because of their capacity to perceive and see news where others can’t.
Their analytical skill and ability to interpret and contextualize developments is exceptional , I am here to remind you all as journalists ,you have a duty and a responsibility to speak the truth , uphold the truth , defend the truth , uphold standards and most importantly hold leaders accountable ”
Dr Dakuku further said “History will not be kind to Journalists who don’t give sincere reportage , as they play critical role in Nation building .
Journalism is the only profession expressly enshrined in section 22 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as severally amended.
At a time like this, I challenge you all to leave your comfort zone and join in the effort to reset our country . Our society demands more from you as bearers of news, conscience of society and those who shape the view of society .
