Medecins du Monde (MdM) is an international humanitarian organization whose mission is to provide medical care for the most vulnerable populations, the world over, including France. It seeks to stimulate voluntary commitment from doctors, other health care providers, and from those whose expertise in other fields is needed for its activities, to enlist all competent support required for the achievement of its projects, and to seek at all times to encourage close working relationships with populations in its care. MdM operating in Nigeria, Borno state since October 2016.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

 

Job Title: MHPSS COUNSELLOR
Location: Maiduguri, Borno State
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Responsibilities

  • Deliver one-on-one (Individual) and group counselling sessions to identified clients within MdM Clinics, and in line with MdM integrated approach
  • Develop psychosocial activities; community mobilization, awareness raising, and any other related activity requested by Medical Supervisor.
  • Support MHPSS TAin delivering training or workshops
  • Support in the creation of materials including publicity documents.
  • Engage with the community to deliver and promote MDM MHPSS project activities in the designated locations.
  • Assist in writing monthly, quarterly, annual reports, monitoring and evaluation activity and progress reports of project activities including monthly reporting to the MHPSS Supervisor.
  • Assist in the implementation of preventive MHPSS interventions at the community and PHC level.
  • Coordinate referrals

Tasks Description

Provide MHPSS consultations within PHC setting:

  • Provide individual or group consultations to beneficiaries presenting in PHC or referred and in need of MH interventions
  • Assist in the identification of psycho-social needs and proposition needed interventions in collaboration with the mental health team and PHC staff
  • Weekly reporting activities and data collection
  • Coordinate with MHPSS supervisor on cases requiring higher level interventions

Provide psycho-social support for mental health beneficiaries:

  • Work directly with MHPSS Supervisor to develop individualized treatment plans for MH beneficiaries
  • In coordination with community mobilizers use participatory methods to adapt activities in accordance to the needs of the different target groups (children, women etc)

Community mental health interventions:

  • Participate in defining effective and culturally appropriate approaches and interventions on the community level
  • Focus on information dissemination and collecting opinions to foster knowledge and self-care practices for communities in areas of intervention
  • Initiate and facilitate group interventions

Analysis, detection and reduction of risk factors influencing the mental health status at community level:

  • In collaboration with the mental health team, explore and detect potential risk factors influencing mental health status of the target population
  • Coordinate with other actors concerned to reduce and/or eliminate potential risk factors.

Others:

  • Any other related MDM tasks as assigned by the MHPSS Supervisor or MHPSS Coordinator
  • Under the guidance of MHPSS Supervisor and MHPSS Coordinator support in the collection of information related to behaviors of the community to reinforce quality of MHPSS services
  • Collaborate and participate, in any field survey, data collection and/or needs assessment organized by MDM in relation to MHPSS
  • Participation in MDM internal meetings, trainings and individual meetings with the MHPSS Supervisor or MHPSS Coordinator
  • The activities may change based on the changing context
  • To inform immediately security focal point in the case of any security problem.
  • Note: This job description is not exhaustive and the staff member may be asked from time to time to perform duties over and above those described here. The staff member is also expected to maintain confidentiality of all beneficiaries and internal information at all times.

Eligibility Criteria

Essential:

  • Degree or HND in Psychology, Counselling, Social Works, Psychiatric Nursing, or related field from a recognized institution
  • 1 – 2 years of professional experiences in relevant field (clinical psychology, educational psychology, Psychiatric Nursing, or other related field)
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills
  • Experience working in humanitarian sector is an asset – specifically in MHPSS programs
  • Good knowledge of counseling and community mobilization methods and tools
  • Good spoken and written English
  • Good spoken and written Hausa , with at least one other local language: Kanuri and Marghi, Shuwa, Fulani,
  • Willingness to work long hours and weekends when necessary
  • Good computer skills (Microsoft word, Power Point and Excel)
  • Proactive and ability to work with multicultural team would be highly appreciated
  • Be committed to MdM’s values as an organization and motivated by its non-statutory, Not For Profit model

Desirable:

  • Experience in supporting medical team and community based organizations
  • Experience working with survivors of trauma, including GBV
  • Working in emergency and development project
  • Exposure to research
  • Good knowledge of Borno state.

 

 

 

Job Title: Guard

Location: Abuja (FCT)
Employment Type: Full-time

Main Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the Liaison’s Officer, the guard is in charge of ensuring the safety of the MdM staff (and their guests), the security of the goods, the quietness and the global hygiene of the building according to MDM rules.

Tasks Description
Security & Control:

  • Perform regular rounds around the enclosure MDM premises to prevent any external intrusion
  • Informed as quickly as those in danger in case of intrusion and contacted his supervisor as soon as possible with the available means of communication
  • Open and close the gate for inputs / outputs of individuals or vehicles
  • Check the entry and exit of visitors in the secure area according to MdM rules ( permission from MdM responsible, filling entry/Exit book)
  • Make sure that nobody enters the enclosure without permission and respect MdM rules (no weapon, registration…)
  • Check that the access doors are closed during non- working hours
  • Ensure that no MdM material comes out of the compound without permission from logistician
  • Report any incident occurring during the shift and, in general, report any information relating to the safety of the mission
  • In the end guard for awarding shift, carries a relief information by a physical inspection of the base to be note on notebook. Do not leave the base if the succession not arrived.
  • Always wait for the next shift guard before leaving and never leave workplace and the premises unattended for any reason.
  • Performs a safety device control so that it is firmly in place (closed doors, lights, fire extinguishers, radios, flashlights, generators, fuel reserves, water.), and if not, notify the line supervisor.

Others:

  • Be flexible in performing his/her duties
  • Inform immediately the security focal point in case of any security problem.

Requirements

  • Candidates should possess an FSLC / HND qualification with a minimum of 2 years work experience.

 

 

 

Job Title: Safety / Security Coordinator

Location: Maiduguri, Nigeria with regular field visits
Job Schedule: Full time
Duration: 6 month (possibility for extension)
Starting date: as soon as possible

Main Tasks

  • The Safety / Security Coordinator is responsible for the development and implementation of the Security Plan and the monitoring and control of the safety and security of people, goods and MdM programs. He/she is the guarantor of the good practice of the MdM policy on the subject.
  • He/she will improve contextual analysis, support operational management and strengthen the security capacities of the mission in order to lighten the workload of the General Coordinator (who remains the primary person responsible for security in the country).

In particular, in Nigeria, his/her main responsibilities will be:

  • Provide to the General Coordinator valuable information and recommendations to make appropriate operational decisions
  • Support the General Coordinator on crisis management and the decision-making process
  • Lead the update and implementation of MDM security package
  • Conduct training and capacity building to MDM team
  • Networking and linkage with NGOs, authorities on security in Maiduguri, Damboa and the Zamfara State to improve security monitoring and analysis

The list of tasks is not intended to be exhaustive and other tasks may be requested by the line supervisor. In addition, a certain degree of flexibility and adaptability is expected from the collaborator according to the potential evolution of the mission’s constraints.

Conditions of the Job:

  • Position based in Maiduguri. If security allows, regular travel to Damboa and other potential locations. Otherwise, follow-up of security rules will be done remotely.

Training & Experience

  • Familiary with the Nigerian Context
  • Similar experience or a minimum of 3-5 years of experience working with international NGOs in high risk humanitarian contexts (operational, logistical or security position)
  • Study//training in security management is an asset (ie: HEAT training)

Hard Skils:
IT:

  • Mastery of Office 365
  • Mastery of Sharepoint
  • Use of tracking and mapping mobile applications
  • VHF radio system setup and training of users
  • Data protection methods.

Languages:

  • Fluency in Spoken / Written English
  • Arabic, Hausa and Fulani languages are an asset.

Mapping softwares:

  • ArcGIS QGIS are any other mapping tool.

Job Title: Pharmacist

Location: Damboa, Borno
Employment Type: Full-time

Main Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Deputy Pharmacy Coordinator, the pharmacist will be responsible for the following main activities in link with MdM procedures:

  • Implementing a quality drugs supply system in line with MdM standards
  • Implementing an effective stock management
  • Reception and preparation of orders
  • Collection and analysis of drugs consumption
  • Reporting and attending to different meetings
  • Support to health facilities and mobile clinics

Task Description

Profile Required

  • Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy.
  • Preferred at least 3 years as professional pharmacist.
  • Strong sense of responsibilities and organization skills.
  • Strong sense of organization and attention to details.
  • Flexibility.
  • Good communication and team work.
  • Ability to work within a complex structure to ensure continuous supply of required.
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Languages (spoken and written): English, Kanuri and Hausa.
