The Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, has charged its technical and maintenance staff to be pro-active and always prioritise maintenance in the discharge of their duties.
This advice was given by a Principal Manager in Administration Directorate, Dr Bomia Ehiokioya, during a three-day in-house training and capacity building for staff of the NDDC technical and maintenance unit at the Commission’s headquarters in Port Harcourt.
Dr Ehiokioya said that the training would improve the technical skills of the staff to enhance efficiency in the discharge of their duties, noting: “The technical staff are the core personnel in the area of maintenance of our infrastructure. We realise that to eliminate waste and save cost, proper maintenance is key.”
She said that the training would be a periodic exercise geared at improving the skills and technical know-how of the staff, affirming that “it is a prerequisite to function optimally in our ever dynamic and technology-driven world.”
In his remarks, an Assistant Manager in the NDDC Technical unit, Mr Chimezie Allen, thanked the Commission for organising the in-house training. He observed that the knowledge gained would be useful in achieving the departmental goals.
Mr. Felix Ogbetere, Administrative Maintenance Officer said that the insights from the training will be applied in discharging his duties with the view to eliminating redundancies at work.
The lead facilitator for the training, Mr Paul Ijeh, noted that “maintenance training is geared towards reducing waste, thereby improving optimal utility of facilities.”
