Police have arrested the three officers whose video went viral while assaulting man and his wife along Emohua Road In Rivers State.
According to the information gathered, The development comes shortly after the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, EFFIONG OKON, acting on the orders of the Police in Abuja, issued a statement through the Command’s PPRO, GRACE IRINGE-KOKO, directing the arrest of the officers.
The Force Public Relations Officer, MUYIWA ADEJOBI, who disclosed the news of the arrest in a series of tweets in the late hours Monday night, said the policemen have been arrested and would be taken to Abuja on Tuesday.
Recall that BraveViews had earlier reported that a viral video surfaced on the social media on Monday, where a policeman stopped a man on the road at Elibrada junction along the East West road, near Port Harcourt and began to assault him.
The video indicated that the Police man gave his victim series of slaps, hitting him with a stick while leading him into his vehicle before being driven away a lady.
The video elicited sharp criticism on social media, making the Police to act promptly.
According to the Force Spokesman, ADEJOBI:
“These men have been arrested and their Commander will personally bring them to the Force Headquarters tomorrow, Tuesday for further actions.
“They are 3 in number, attached to RRS, Rivers State. Their action does not portray the Police in a good light at all.
“You will see the evidence tomorrow. They will be at the Force Headquarters and our actions will be made public. No worries. I don’t think any exposed, disciplined and polished officer will cover this,” he said.
ADEJOBI further noted that:
“We are mindful of the fact that every human being needs mental evaluation on a regular basis. The NP Health Management Office has been up and doing in addressing these metal related issues and this is achievable.
“There is no place in our law or act or training manual or curriculum, where slapping or flogging is listed as a measure of arrest or applying minimum force (as stipulated by law), no”. Continue Reading
