RIVERS STATE 2022 BUDGET OF CONSOLIDATION,
A MISNOMER.
IS THERE REALLY GOVERNANCE HERE IN RIVERS STATE OR A FEW ARE JUST “FORMING” GOVERNMENT IN THE NAME OF OTHERS”
If people could successfully detour the organized governance, carrying on with their lives individualistically, they will. Our situation tells that story. If people then therefore had not need of governance, the government will exist for itself, being scarcely accountable to the people and also existing in exclusion of them.
What we have lost here is the ultimate connection of people with governance. The more people connect in governance then the more effective governance could be. The means by which governance connects the people are: regulation, taxation and provision. Where any is missing, the people gravitate more to individualism and the society recedes more to primitivity. That said, if we had more and more of our people having governance serving them no use, then our case would be a case of governance failure and all our hullabaloo on good governance would be a far cry as there is not even governance at all.
Now let us access and see how much need we have of governance as a people:
(I) security to life and acquired property
(II) Access to justice
(III) Basic Primary education
(IV) Good town planning and sanitation
(V) Good water supply
(VI) Care for the physically and mentally challenged
(VII) Basic health care.
(VIII) Good and durable roads.
(IX) Human Capacity building
How much of these do Rivers peoples expect to achieve by way of their governance contract under the present administration? Now ask yourself: Is there really governance or people are just “forming” government in the name of others?
