SPECIAL APC CONGRESS APPEAL COMMITTEE: OKUMGBA ASSURES OF TRANSPARENCY AND FAIRNESS

The Chairman of the Special Congress Appeal Committee for the ad-hoc delegates’ congresses of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Edo State, Mr. David Okumgba, has promised thoroughness, transparency and fairness for every complaint that may arise from the conduct of the just concluded congresses in Edo State.

Okumgba gave this assurance on Saturday, while speaking to newsmen, shortly after a meeting with other members of the committee in Abuja.

The party had last week conducted congresses across the nation to elect the local government area, state and national delegates in accordance with APC’s constitution and 2022 Electoral Act.

A total of 180 delegates were elected from the LGA and State Congresses, at 5 delegates apiece, while 54 delegates made the list from the national congress in the state that has 192 wards and 18 LGAs.

According to the Special Congress Appeal Committee Chairman, who is also the Zonal Publicity of South-South APC, “Every petition to this panel bordering on the conduct of last week’s APC’s special congresses to elect our LGA, state and national delegates in Edo State will be given the required attention it deserves. I can tell you that they will not be treated with levity.

.

“Edo State is very particular to our party, especially in this geographical zone. Therefore, our assignment is to ensure that aspirants go into the various primary elections upbeat and with the assurances of a level playing field and a rancour-free outcome that will be acceptable and credible to all.

“For that reason, this Appeal Committee is expecting to recieve reports from the congress committees appointed by our great party. Our own committee is to ascertain that the listed categories of delegates emerged from the special congresses conducted in the 18 local government areas and also entertain complaints where necessary, with a view to resolving all to avoid litigations or defections of aggrieved members.”

Okumgba pledged total commitment of his committee to fulfil its mandate fairly and timely, and expressed confidence that Edo State APC would set a pace for an internal democracy, capable of wooing aggrieved members from rival political parties ahead of next year’s general elections.

The 5-man troubleshooting committee has Hon. Femi Kehinde as Secretary while Barr. Marvel Odiedi, Hon. Abdullahi Bardi and Salisu Baba Ahmed are serving as members.
