World Bank invests $500 million in livestock augmentation program to benefit 30,000 farmers in Nigeria

The Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES), supported by a $500 million World Bank Fund, has supported her 30,000 livestock farmers in Kogi State. The initiative aims to directly support 21,000 individuals and their 9,000 women, with a focus on improving the profitability and commercial potential of the livestock sector.

The Coordinator of the L-PRES Project Implementation Unit in Kogi State, Mr. Olufemi Bolarin, disclosed this during a two-day orientation workshop in Lokoja. The purpose of the workshop was to familiarize members with the project’s concept, process, and implementation philosophy. “The aim of this project is to increase livestock production through the commercialization of this sector, thereby increasing profits for livestock farmers across the country,” Borarin stressed.

He highlighted the World Bank’s significant investments in Nigeria’s livestock sector, stressing that countries have already committed resettlement funds to facilitate project efforts. Ms. Borarin explained the inclusive nature of the initiative, which targets livestock farmers of all sizes, from small to large, including women involved in livestock farming.
