South Africa 2024: The Canon Collins Trust, in collaboration with the Sol Plaatje Education Project, is currently accepting applications for the Canon Collins Sol Plaatje Scholarship in
South Africa 2024. This scholarship is only available to masters and doctoral degree applicants.
Sol Plaatje Education Project and the
Canon Collins Trust will provide funding for
up to two years for master’s students and
up to three years for doctoral students.
Ongoing funding is conditioned on
satisfactory progress and academic
records.
Details on Canon Collins Sol Plaatje Scholarships
Interdisciplinary programs and doctoral
programs sometimes defy easy classification. Applicants are encouraged to use their own judgment when deciding whether or not to apply. However, applications that are clearly outside of these disciplines (e.g. MBA, Health
Sciences, Sports Science, Applied Science) will not be considered for the award.

In 2024, limate justice will be a priority.
Applications for scholarships related to climate justice may be applied in scientific or applied science fields if they can demonstrate relevance to issues related to climate justice.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for Canon Collins Sol Plaatje Scholarships, applicants are expected to meet the following conditions:
- Applicants must be a national of, or have refugee status in, one of the following countries: Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe
- Applicants must be normally resident in one of the above countries
- Applicants must be in possession of a good first degree (minimum second class, upper division or equivalent) or about to graduate in the year of application
- Applicants must be studying or applying to study at a South African university
Eligible Courses
In 2024, awards will be made only to those studying in three areas:
- Justice, which includes Climate Justice, Law, Economics and Politics
- Education policy and practice
- Humanities, which includes Literature, History, Anthropology and the Arts

Application Procedures
