In a significant development, former President Goodluck Jonathan has convened a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
This encounter takes place approximately five weeks after the former president’s initial visit to the Villa on June 13, marking his first meeting with the incumbent since assuming office in May.
While the exact purpose of this meeting remains undisclosed, it follows Jonathan’s prior visit to Tinubu, during which they discussed matters concerning Africa and the West Africa subregion.
Speaking to journalists as he departed from the State House in Abuja, Jonathan, who also serves as the Head of the ECOWAS Mediation Team to Mali, emphasized that his visit aimed to address pertinent issues related to continental and subcontinental bodies.
“As the ECOWAS mediator for Mali and the chair of the West African Elders Forum, I came to brief the president about certain matters pertaining to the continent and the subregion,” Jonathan explained.
The meeting between the two prominent figures holds significance, given their influential roles in the region and their potential impact on Africa’s political landscape.
