Professor Okey Onuchuku is a professor of Economics with specialisaition in Econometrics in the university of port harcourt with so many publications in international journals .
His journey in Ignatius Ajuru began sometime in November 2021. I do not intend to bore you with long rhetorics, I shall bring to bear his giants strides on the following areas; 1. Educational development and repositioning of the citadel of learning. 2. Students wellbeing and comfortable learning environment. 3. Staffs welfare and moltivational incentives.
1 Let me begin with the first area Educational development and repositioning of the institution. On his assumption to duty , he initiated and completed the process of securing NUC accreditation for 21 new departments .
2. Students welfare and improvement of learning conditions, Professor Okey Onuchuku as a man who understands the plight of the people and the harsh economic reality of an average student, he reduced school fees and “introduce part payments “ policy. This policy helps a student to pay his school fees in installments. This policy has indeed helped so many students, even those who dropped out of school because of lack of funds have since returned back to school. He also embarked on massive renovation and face uplifts of hotels and class rooms thereby improving the living conditions of the students and has enhanced learning .
3. Lastly , staffs welfare , since assumption to office, he made sure impress, training and conference of staffs ( Teaching and Non Teaching ) is prioritised , he has also made sure that all staffs gets their Christmas bonus, something that they never got all their years of service.
Professor Onuchuku is focused and determined to leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the institution attains her bride of place in the comity of citadel of learning in Nigeria.
I wish to employ all men of good will to support this uncommon selfless public servant to achieve more.
