According to Chief Press Secretary to the Executive ChairDaerefa-a Christopher Braideman of Degema Local Government Area, The Executive Chairman of Degema Local Government Area, Hon. Michael John Williams, has tasked traditional rulers in DELGA to take the issues of security within their domains as a top priority, in order to sustain the existing peace in the LGA.
The Council Chairman gave the charge, Wednesday, when he received the new leadership of the DELGA Traditional Rulers Council on a familiarization visit, at the Council Secretariat in Degema.
He charged the traditional rulers to carry every member of their communities along and eschew the act of segregation, based on perceived opposition.
The Council boss enjoined them to unite their people, by showing love to them, adding that such disposition would engender peace, cohesion and development to the communities.
The DELGA Sheriff disclosed that the Rivers State Government had directed that traditional rulers, Council Chairmen and other stakeholders, who fail to maintain peace in their various domains, would face severe sanctions, which included dethronement, suspension, outright dismissal and prosecution, amongst others. On their request for an office space within the Council, the Council Chairman assured that his administration would give them a befitting and conducive environment for their smooth operation before the end of his tenure.
While congratulating the new Chairman of the DELGA Traditional Rulers Council and Amanyanabo of Bakana, HRH King Lawrence Odum Barboy, Amabibi VIII, Odum Barboy IX, the Council Chairman urged him to always put the interest of all communities in the LGA first, and not only speak for the interest of his community.
In his speech, the Chairman of the DELGA Traditional Rulers Council and Amanyanabo of Bakana, HRH King Lawrence Odum, Amabibi VIII, Odum Barboy IX, thanked the Council Chairman for his role in the recognition of some traditional rulers in the LGA by the past administration of Chief Barr. He commended his administration for its sensitivity to the aspirations and yearnings of the people of the various communities across DELGA, through the execution of his several people-oriented projects.
Giving the vote of thanks, the Amanyanabo of Ke, HRH King Agolia Aboko, Omoni XII, thanked the Council Chairman for his vision in transforming the LGA, as well as for his support to the traditional institution in the LGA.
King Aboko, particularly thanked the Council Chairman for having a better vision and plan for a befitting structure within the Council secretariat for the traditional rulers, and for the maintenance of peace across all communities of the LGA.
While thanking the State Government for the recognition and elevation of some stools within the LGA, the Ke monarch also appealed for more of such recognition and elevation for the remaining stools that are yet to be recognized. Continue Reading
