Lawyer calls for end of N-Power and other social programs amid corruption allegations and inefficiency
Lawyer Inibehe Effiong called on the Federal Government to end N-Power and other social intervention programs under the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, arguing that they have failed to reduce poverty.
On Channels Television, he criticized these programs for having no impact on poverty and inflation. Effiong challenged the government to reveal the names of the beneficiaries for the sake of transparency and questioned the need to reinstate the suspended Minister Betta Edu without this information.
President Bola Tinubu has suspended Edu and NSIPA Executive Director Halima Shehu for alleged corruption, halting all the agency’s programs including N-Power and others. Edu, her predecessor and Shehu are under investigation for embezzlement in the humanitarian ministry

1. Orioye Benedict Gbayisemore, a National Ambassador for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and former NPower participant, recently commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his speedy resolution of the National Social Investment Program (NSIP) crisis.
2. Gbayisemore, who has experienced the benefits of the program firsthand, hailed President Tinubu’s decisive action as “commendable”.
3. He specifically appealed to President Tinubu to implement decisive and deliberate measures to tackle poverty in Nigeria.
4. Emphasis was also placed on the need for transparency within the NSIP with the aim of promoting self-reliance and job creation among Nigerian youths.
5. Gbayisemore expressed concern over financial mismanagement within the programme, noting its main objective of creating employment and encouraging youth entrepreneurship.
6. He shared his personal success story and stated that the program had elevated him to prominence and helped him become an employer.
7. As ambassador, Gbayisemore recommended that the committee responsible for the NSIP should undertake extensive consultations with key stakeholders to prepare a comprehensive report and suggest improvements to the programme.
8. He emphasized the importance of the NSIP, terming it Africa’s largest social investment initiative with widespread impact across various economic classes in Nigeria.
9. Gbayisemore urged accountability and urged that those involved in misconduct within the program be brought to justice to prevent further malpractice.
10. He called for the detection and punishment of persons involved in fraudulent activities related to the program.
