RIVERS APC CALLS FOR VIGILANCE, OBJECTIVITY AHEAD 2023 ELECTIONS

The Acting Publicity Secretary, All Progressives Congress (APC), Rivers State chapter, Hon. Darlington Nwauju, has called for vigilance and objectivity on the part of journalists as the 2023 general elections approaches. Hon Nwauju also appealed for partnership between the media and critical stakeholders in the fight for true democracy in Rivers State and Nigeria.

The Ag Publicity Secretary made the appeals today, Thursday 18, 2022, when he paid a visit to the leadership of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Rivers State Council.

Speaking during the visit, the former Chairman Caretaker Committee, Omuma local government Area, Hon. Nwauju hinted that journalists have played significant roles in the development of the country, and that it would be out of place for any political party to think it can carry on without synergy and partnership with the media.

H emphasized on the need for vigilance, neutrality and objectivity in the coming months in the face of extreme gimmickry, intrigues and misinformation by most politicians to get ahead with little or no care for decency and truth. He appealed to journalists in Rivers State to go beyond the surface in the daily intrigues spewed out by spin-doctors who have secret objectives behind their public actions.

He appealed to the leadership of NUJ to sensitize it’s members to change the narrative, where reportage is on personalities instead of issues. He said journalists will find a lot of truth if they scratched beyond the surface in the various strange things happening and will still happen in the state as the days to elections draw closer.

Hon Nwauju opined that constitutional democracy involves the ability to accept ideas from various perspectives, while adding that APC as the alternative policy platform, recorgnises the role and importance of journalists.

The Acting Publicity Secretary of Rivers State APC revealed that the party over the years has provided constructive criticism as an opposition party.

Responding, the Chairman, NUJ Rivers State Council, Mr Stanley Job Stanley, thanked Hon Nwauju for the visit, while adding that the party has not made any mistake in bringing Hon. Darlington Nwauju on board. He expressed the council’s readiness to partner with well-meaning members of the society.
