How to Apply for the 2024 Injini/Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship Program: The Injini EdTech Fellowship program, delivered in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, is a six-month, equity-free hybrid venture support program that takes a partnership approach to business acceleration, divided into three core focus areas to be delivered from May. until October 2024.
The EdTech Fellowship program specifically focuses on the following three main objectives:
• Facilitate market access with a lens to expand the reach of students at the “bottom of the pyramid”;
• Design and implement or refine systems for impact measurement, monitoring and evaluation; And
• Improving financial sustainability, including support for willingness to invest where relevant.
Advantage
• Each selected EdTech company, or “Fellow”, will receive Injinis specialized acceleration support worth more than R2,500,000, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation.
Program benefits include:
• Practical support from specialists in educational innovation, fundraising, impact M&E, trade and more;
• Educational evaluation and certification by EdTech Impact and Education Alliance Finland;
• Custom market research support from Injini’s team of educational innovation researchers;
• “Sponsored skills” to quickly respond to team needs, produce targeted results and strengthen your overall capacity for long-term business success with the help of external consultants;
• Networking, knowledge sharing and learning opportunities with key ecosystem players and industry experts;
• Access to a selection of courses, in addition to office hours, from faculty members of Carnegie Mellon University’s Human-Computer Interaction Institute – a world leader in educational technology and applied learning science;
• Contribute to a growing body of evidence documenting “what works” in African EdTech; And
• Equity-free venture capital funding of more than R1,000,000.
Eligibility
The typical participating EdTech company in the EdTech Fellowship program meets the following profile:
• Addresses a significant market opportunity focusing on South Africa;
• Designed a technology-based solution to increase access and improve educational outcomes in South Africa, preferably supporting students in pre-school (0-5 years), primary and secondary education (5-18 years) and/or teacher training and professional development;
• Starts in post-revenue growth phase (annual revenue likely to exceed R1,000,000). If the applicant is a non-profit organisation, the grant funding constitutes annual income;
• Has the potential to reach 8,000 direct learners within one year of joining the program
• Led by a diverse team with a strong understanding of the context in which they operate – we are particularly excited to support inspiring female founders and leadership teams.
Registration procedure for the 2024 Injini/Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship Program
Applications to the program open on 22 January 2024 and close at midnight on 13 February 2024. Startup founders and senior business executives applying to the program are expected to participate in the tasks below as part of the shortlisting and selection proce.
• Round 1 – Application Form Submission: Eligible EdTech founders or business leaders are encouraged to submit an application.
• Second Round – Virtual Interviews: The top 25 EdTech companies will be invited to a virtual interview with the Injini team.
• Third Round – Due Diligence: Shortlisted candidates will be asked to submit additional information to further evaluate each company and its growth potential in the EdTech Fellowship program.
• Round Four – Pitch: 18 EdTech companies will be selected and invited to pitch their solution to the Injini Selection Committee in Cape Town on 26 and 17 March 2024.
• Successful and unsuccessful candidates notified: 28 March 2024
• Onboarding and Contracting Programme: 1 April 2024
Cohort Kick-off Event: The ultimately selected 12 South African EdTech companies will be invited to present at an exclusive event taking place in Cape Town on 11 April 2024.
Application Closing Date: 13 February 2024
Please note: All costs associated with travel to and from Cape Town for those residing elsewhere in South Africa are covered by Injini (for one person per company).
