Job Description

  • Working as part of a team of Broadcast Journalists reporting to a Programmes Lead or News Lead and, ultimately, to Head of Station.
  • Work will be in shifts, which may include nights, weekends, and public holidays.
  • The job entails originating, researching, producing, and presenting compelling and engaging packages, interviews, features, analyses, news stories, and background for radio and online and other media platforms.

Responsibilities

  • The broadcast journalist will be expected to perform the following functions:
  • To generate, research, write, translate, edit, report, and adapt stories or programme material; to find relevant contributors or interviewees or other sources of material and/or actuality while maintaining high professional journalistic l standards of accuracy, impartiality, balance and fairness
  • To offer original ideas for news stories, programmes or series, and actively contribute to editorial processes by suggesting new angles on existing stories, proffering means of moving stories on, and putting forth ideas for stories not covered.
  • To think through and around editorial problems and develop realistic alternatives.
  • To perform at the microphone with or without script, conduct interviews, chair discussions, and participate in producing content, whether pre-recorded or studio live or on location.
  • To be responsible for studio production of live or pre-recorded programmes, and to respond to breaking stories on air and off.
  • To use a range of audio or digital/information technology equipment to research, compile, write, verify, assemble, edit, and deliver programmes to the highest level of professionalism.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism or Mass Communication or Broadcast Journalism or other related courses in Social Sciences and the Humanities is essential
  • Proven experience working as a broadcast journalist in an FM radio station.
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English and Hausa, and the ability to communicate effectively in both languages.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the broadcast media landscape in Nigeria and the way it is developing.

Essential Skills:

  • An excellent broadcasting voice and the ability to acquire an appropriate presentation style.
  • Ability to write, edit, adapt and translate material with accuracy and to suit different audiences and media platforms.

Job Title: Engineer

Location: Abuja

Job Description

  • The Engineers will work with other team members to plan efficient broadcast activities and ensure that the technical facilities of the station operate at optimum level within required guidelines and established budget.
  • The Engineers may be required to work extra hours, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.

Responsibilities
The Engineers will be expected to perform the following functions:

  • To maintain the technical facilities of the station including studios, control room, etc and ensure that programmes are broadcast on time.
  • To manage the technical aspects of the station’s operations, including the coordination of live transmission and assisting with pre-recording of programmes.
  • To ensure the highest quality radio signal by overseeing daily operations of the engineering and master control functions of broadcast equipment.
  • To work closely with broadcast operations to keep them informed through documentation of changes to the production environment.
  • To analyse systems and/or workflows to identify issues, improvements and solutions.
  • To ensure that the station’s broadcast equipment is maintained and it operates within broadcast standards and guidelines provided by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and other regulatory agencies by developing,
  •  scheduling, performing, and supervising routine, preventive, and emergency maintenance of technical equipment located in the studio and at transmitter sites.
  • To create and implement best practice engineering vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve business performance.

Requirements

  • At least a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or related discipline.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ station-level broadcast engineering experience.
  • Sound understanding of, and demonstrated expertise in handling, managing, and maintaining, sophisticated radio broadcast equipment.
  • Experience in managing complex technical projects.

Essential Skills:

  • Demonstrable ability to multitask and work actively as a member of more than one team.
  • The ability to participate in developing project priorities, resource requirements, project scope and objectives.
  • The ability to work under pressure and with minimal supervision, as well to supervise and train staff in use of equipment.
